EC Archives

What's the best way to collect EC? I have all the gemstone hardcovers except for haunt of fear 1. It looks like the dark horse ones are extremely expensive and mostly oop. Are the paperbacks similar page quality to the hardcover? Has anyone else switched to paperback after gemstone? Did it drive you crazy?
