Fire in boiler room

I’ve loved the Titanic ever since the 90’s when the movie came out. I have an authentic coin from the Titanic, books, the 2 video set, and a Titanic themed Blockbuster gift card. This community has refueled the love and desire for knowledge I have for the ship.

A couple of nights ago I was watching a documentary and they talked about the fire in the boiler room. I don’t ever remember hearing about a fire before now (it’s also been a good 10-15 years since I’ve last dug into the Titanic), but it made me wonder if it’s possible to see where the fire was on the ship and whether or not it was a contributing factor in the ship sinking. Is it possible that the damage is hidden in the mud?

I’m just now realizing how much of the hull is buried in the mud. Like others, I wish there was a way to see what lies under the mud.

There’s such a fine balance between investigating as much of the ship as possible and honoring it as a graveyard.

I also wonder how many artifacts are buried in the sedimentary mud in the 15 sq mile debris field. And if it’s possible to deconstruct and “piece together” the stern using the scans/photos taken by Magellan.

She’s such a beautiful ship, a marvel, and I hope she gives up more of her secrets before she becomes unrecognizable.
