Yamaha CK61 or Roland Fantom 06
Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice on choosing my first synthesizer for live gigs and home practice. I’m torn between the Roland Fantom-06 and the Yamaha CK61 (edit: and the Roland VR909B).
Here’s what I’m looking for:
- Out-of-the-box sounds that are versatile (acoustic, synthwave/electronic, Hammond organ).
- The ability to tweak sounds a little, and also apply effects on the go (for live gigs).
- A setup that’s simple and minimal for live gigs (Currently i'm using a MIDI keyboard + mainstage, but I want a single piece of hardware to use).
- Something with 61 keys and a budget around €1000.
- I’ll mainly use it for live performances and solo practice at home, often improvising over backing tracks.
The Fantom-06 seems very powerful but maybe overkill for my needs. The CK61 looks more straightforward for live use but might lack some depth. Budget is not an issue, so the extra money i'd have to put into a Fantom doesn't bother me. I’ve also heard about the new Roland Juno D-6 but don’t know enough about it, seems like it lacks some knobs / faders to use in a live context, forcing you to dive into the menu all the time.
Does anyone have experience with these synths? Thanks!
Edit: after posting this, I realized there's a roland alternative similar to the CK61, which is the Roland VR09. If anyone has any info about this synth as well, that would be much appreciated!
