Parents are comparing driving a manual to brain surgery

21m about to get a first car. I want a manual since all my dream cars are only in manual and not to mention they are more reliable, easier to mod and overall more fun to drive. I never driven a manual but I've watched plenty of helpful videos and learned a lot from this sub. I am comfortable driving an automatic and have no glaring problems with my driving.

I originally wanted a 15-17k used brz/ frs for my first car which they talked me into getting a super cheap car under 10k for at least a year to learn how to drive

But when I mentioned I was getting a manual, they started yelling at me about how I was going "all out" on a car and saying I'm going to kill myself in it. "Oh you don't even know how to drive a manual" I said Ive watched plenty of videos and she said "oh yeah I watched a video on brain surgery so that must mean I'm now a brain surgeon"

Keep in mind they are not contributing financially in any way shape or form. The car will be 100% bought under my name and with my money.

I don't know why they are so pressed about me getting a manual and acting like driving a manual is completely different from automatic. Is it really that hard? They laughed in my face when I said I could learn to drive it in a day and feel comfortable in a month. Are those time goals realistic?
