86 Fleer MJ reprints?

Went to a local card store today, and noticed a card resembling the '86 Fleer Jordan scattered atop the counter, inside the case. I asked the gentleman behind the counter how much it was. He told me $3, and confirmed if I knew it was a reprint, which was my assumption. I knew full well the original would not be flippantly laying around. He went on to explain a customer had given him a hard time about this card as he rang me up. I called my friend who is very knowledgeable about sports cards to get the scoop on this, and he told me that outside of the 1997 Decade of Excellence card, all reprints of this card "were done privately." The word 'counterfeit' entered the conversation, but he stopped short of explicitly saying the card is fake, and certainly we agreed its neat to have if you want to own the iconic MJ rookie in some form.

So my question is simply - is it fake outright? Are official reprints that are identical to the original floating around? If so, were they printed by Fleer? I'm not sure, and don't wanna feel too icky about buying a fake card, as cool as it is to have. I would definitely do it over again, just for the sake of making the card accessible to me in some capacity.

Any insight you can provide would be awesome. Have a great day and thanks for reading.
