Possible or Not: Shortselling rented cars
(I'm a highschooler so if you find this idea too naive please don't be too harsh:) In my country luxury gasoline vehicle price has been decreasing drastically since early 2022. IMO if the amount of value decreased per year exceed the anual renting price then it's possible to shortsell these cars. Eg. A 2016 Porsche Panamera has a net worth of about 550,000 CNY at the beginning of 2024, and the current net worth is about 260,000 CNY, and the annual renting rate would be ideally under 160,000 CNY. While the annual renting rate is 160,000 CNY, but the decrease is 290,000 CNY, that means here's a 130,000 CNY gap between these two deals. If I rent that car in early 2024 can sell it immediately with a price about 550,000 CNY and then purchase the same model back now with 260,000 and return to the renter, I'd ideally make a profit of 130,000 CNY. Although here might be some extra fees or taxes that would reduce my profit, do u guys think overall this plan is possible?
