Have the new Studio Design grips dropped in quality?

I have an original dancing black studio design pistol grip that was removed from a studio design putter currently and also purchased a new dancing studio design grip recently from the Scotty accessory store online. I have to say the new one is far more rubbery/grainy and has less of that smooth/shiny component that feels so good on my older grip. Obviously I understand the older grip is a bit worn and dated, but to me the material used to make the grip has most definitely changed. Has anyone experienced something similar or am I crazy?
