Switched from onsite to remote, accepted this new job, and laid off for being new and remote in 11 months

I got divorced, transitioning to a single parent, I needed flexibility, I needed more as I had to now buy a new house to live in, all of those life decisions were made and I took on a new job to work towards maintaining and planning these new life events - but alas, after I bought the house and had the mortgage under name, in 11 months the company laid me off giving bulls hit reasons like new to role so not involved in major projects and remote - I was in the lay off list.

Why is this even legal? How can companies do this to real humans? Hardly got 5 weeks as severance package. Not enough time to look for a new job to keep the income coming.

Nothing! Just seems like it’s all gonna fail. Started this petition in the hope to bring a change / I don’t know honestly how much power a petition has, but STOP Unnecessary Lay Offs is the name of the petition on Change Org. Requesting for mandatory 6 months notice for lay offs. Pls sign support if you resonate!
