What does it take to be anonymous online?

Hey guys, I am doing research on what it takes to be anonymous online these days. Now the scope can range from your average Joe to a nation state actors.

What is your thoughts on how to stay anonymous? What does it take?

I believe being anonymous is an illusion and you can never be truly anonymous, but you can make it difficult.
