Would this have made KOTCS more enjoyable
So I recently rewatched Kingdom of the crystal skull. Enjoyed it more this time around and can say it's a perfectly serviceable adventure flick. I think the movie was always doomed to fall a bit short compared to the OT given how great those movies were for their time and the strong nostalgia they hold.
I know people have discussed "nuking the fridge" and an underwhelming villain death many times before. But while rewatching the movie something struck me that I hadn't thought of before: some deeper, more fleshed out lore for the main artifact and aliens all around would have greatly amped up the stakes.
The original films did a great job hyping up artifacts like the Ark of the covenant, holy grail etc. You get to know why those things are so important. The crystal skull on the other hand feels alot vaguer in it's usefullness. Like the russians wants to use it in some brainwashing programe or something along those lines. Feels a little dull compared to have a biblical Ark blast your enemies clean from the earth.
I actually really like the change of theme from biblical artifacts to alien related things and Crystal skull is a pretty enjoyable movie overall. In hindsight and with a little less bias I think the biggest flaw of the movie was the lack of build up on the alien lore and not the silly things like Nuking the fridge etc.
Anyone feel me on this?
