How do you guys organize your truck? Bring everything with you versus leave stuff at home?
Hi everyone, as the business has grown, I have of course accumulated more and more tools which are getting difficult to keep organized while also having use of my truck to move larger objects. I work out of a Jeep Gladiator (I know, I know, not an ideal truck for this, but I couldn’t find a deal on any other small trucks during Covid) with a bed cap.
In the bed, I have a collapsing ladder and step-stool, then two large storage crates full of the durable items that can get tossed around in the bed (extension cords, plumbing toolbox, vacuum, rags, common supplies, etc). Also in the bed I keep my primary tool bag, which I bring into pretty much every house with me.
On the floors of the back seat I have my mechanics tool sets, and then in the storage bins under the seats I have several carrying bags for different types of tools (one bag for drilling, one bag for grinding, one bag for sawzall, one for caulking, etc. each of these bags has usually a battery or two so they are self-contained.
The problem I’m facing is that the bed is not so full that things are not sliding around, which is annoying. Plus, climbing into the bed and rummaging through my storage bins to find stuff is inconvenient. I don’t want to put more things into the bed because then when I have to move large objects I have to spend 20 minutes re-organizing the truck before I can move an appliance.
How do you all keep your truck organized without spreading everything out so much there’s no room for large items? I should also note I hate when things bang and clatter around in the cabin so I try to keep everything and soft containers.
