Have no idea where to go next

Hi all 34m here. Birthday was last week. Grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, after a point realized there was nothing there for me but alcoholism, so I left for the city. Stuck in out for 4 years, and didn't make a single friend. No one would talk to me or make eye contact unless I was a patron of the retail store they were working at (restaurants included). I got a once in a lifetime opportunity to relocate to Hawaii, so I did. It's great here. However, tiny actual shacks cost 1.2 million USD. Condos are also ridiculously expensive, or the monthly dues to the Condo building are extremely high (I've seen as high as $4k).

I feel as though I have no choice but to leave, as I am here alone and very much priced out of the housing market. My rent is also very high for a roach infested apt unit without amenities.

I've been looking at Spain. I speak Spanish, and I saw that I can apply for a passport after 2 years. I always wanted to retire in Portugal, and this might be the chance to get to the EU.

I'm a city person, and most cities in the US have a long list of cons that I find unacceptable. Won't get into that, but I will say that I think I would be happier elsewhere. Don't know if that is actually true. Anyone have any insight on expat life in Spain? Portugal?

I'm single with no kids.
