Leaving consulting for software engineering?

Hi all, I’m 25 and have been working at a B4 as a technology consultant for the past 2.5 years. I’m thinking about a career switch since I realize consulting just isn’t a good fit for me. I’m interested in software dev and wondering if anyone here has made this type of transition? I’m thinking I’ll have to go back to school, but also thinking there might be some accelerated programs / certifications that could help and maybe a CS degree wouldn’t be required? Any insight?
