Service Dogs
So I was disappointed in Cody’s most recent Karen video, where he dismissed the woman upset at the mother letting her child pet her service dog. Service animals aren’t pets when they’re in working mode, they’re medical equipment. And I know at least on a state level, many states list distracting a service animal as a misdemeanor. Even his takes on kids approaching non-service dogs and petting them was surprising; I love dogs, but some are reactive for various reasons, and it’s just respectful to ask before petting anyone’s dog! Kids might not know better, but it’s up to the parents to correct and teach their kids, not act like their child is entitled to every animal. That’s a good way of letting your kid get bit, or if it’s a service animal, putting the owner’s health and safety at risk.
Ignorance isn’t inherently a bad thing, but I think Cody needs to be more mindful since he has such a large audience. There are thankfully a lot of comments on that video already educating him, and I’m hoping he takes those to heart! It’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you’re accountable and use those mistakes to learn and grow.
EDIT: Cody has pinned the following comment on this Cody & Ko video.
“hey I guess I was uninformed about the service dog clip. thanks for educating me. obviously sometimes my takes will be bad, as I am a flawed human and also don’t know everything in the world”
I hope Cody knows we don’t expect him to be flawless or know everything! He gave an ignorant take but he owned up to it, and I’m glad about that. I do hope he takes this as an opportunity to be mindful about topics he might be uninformed about, or do a little research when confronted with topics like this to avoid such things in the future.
