Changing my name while active

Quick question for the legal people out there. I’m attempting to file for an adult name change with the county court. Is there anything I need to do army wise prior to doing so? Or do I just file on the civilian side and then take my new documents to deers for them to update my information? I’ve been told it’s the former and that’s what makes sense to me but if anyone has experience with this or knows the process I’d appreciate some confirmation.
