Problem with live gold on xb1

So I just redeemed some points on the Xbox app for a month of live gold and redeemed it on the console. When I booted up skate 3 to play online with one of my friends it said that I needed xbox live for it, then it sent me to a screen thag said I needed to modify it. I know I have it redeemed because it says gold next to my name
