18F who recently started wearing the niqab, scared of society
I’m an 18F who recently started wearing the niqab, and while I’m sure this is what I want, I can’t help but feel nervous about how people around me will react. I’ve never been the type of person anyone would expect to make this change...I used to post on tiktok in cute outfits with my hair and makeup done, and while I wasn’t overly promiscuous, I was definitely far from someone you’d associate with halal dressing. My family is very supportive, and I have a small group of friends, but I’m still scared to show them this side of me. maybe that’s a sign they’re not right for me, or maybe I’m just overthinking. Living in a city where everyone talks doesn’t help, especially since my social media presence has already made me a topic of discussion, with strangers spam-calling me or making confession posts. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time and started wearing the niqab while traveling—it felt amazing to be covered like that and it solidified my decision. But now that college is resuming, I’m so nervous about wearing it to school that I’ve been avoiding my daily responsibilities just to think about this and what people will say. I know this isn’t going to be easy, and I’m afraid of losing friends along the way, but I’m determined to follow through because this feels right for me. Edit: I’ve started school now and yesterday was my first day going in my niqab! Today feels easier and the reactions I’ve been getting have been much better than I expected 🥹every comment on this post had really helped me overcome my fears and boost my confidence so thank you all so much, God bless you ❤️
