The Jackal
There was a terrorist/assassin who was known as Carlos The Jackal. He was fictionalized in a few places over the years. He was Jason Bourne’s original target in the The Bourne Identity novel (that’s where I first heard of him).
The novel The Day of the Jackal, was not based on any of his known activities. Instead after the novel was found in one of “Carlos’s” safe houses, the media started calling him Carlos the Jackal
His real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez and has been in a French Prison since 1994
I doubt Alex knew any of this, and I’m sure Dan is right that he thinks the movie The Day of The Jackal is historically accurate. But this seems like one of those background things Dan would’ve normally love to dig into for us. Here is an article about it
