Just realized: Super Bowl LIX is basically a re-run of Super Bowl LI, and this time, Jon is with the bad guys
We enter another Super Bowl immediately following the election and inauguration of Donald Trump. And as much as MAGA is mad about the Chiefs making the Super Bowl for whatever reason, they unquestionably play the role that the New England Patriots did in 2017. Politically, the Chiefs are of course the team of Harrison Butker, that bright ray of sunshine who thinks feminism has gone too far with the whole "women having jobs" thing. Mahomes just stays out of politics, which wouldn't be so bad if his wife and mom weren't so enthusiastically backing Trump no matter how much of an authoritarian he was promising to be all campaign. Even their owner has donated to Republicans as recently as this past election cycle. It's not a perfect parallel, but it sure sounds like the Trumpier team of the two. The Trumpers are mad because they seem to be mad even while getting what they want. Sorest winners I've ever seen. As for the Eagles, uh... they're a bird team from the biggest, bluest city in a swing state. All I got for that one.
Even apolitically, though, the Chiefs are the new dynasty, they really are the new New England Patriots. The team that, even outside of politics, most people would like to see lose just because we're so sick of them winning -- unless we're a fan of them of course. The Eagles are a far less perfect parallel to the Falcons, to be fair. They're taken pretty seriously at this point, have been to the Super Bowl plenty of times now and have even won it once, against the Patriots no less. But the Falcons really only filled the role they did by not being the Patriots, and the Eagles now fill the role of not being the Chiefs. If only the Lions made it, that would have been a way better parallel.
I'm just saying, if the Eagles are up by 25 points in the 3rd quarter, do NOT get comfortable.
