The Omen and their Nightmares
With the DLC we now have enough information to understand the nature of the Omens' nightmares.
The first thing we have to understand is Mohg and Morgott's blood, or more accurately, their cursed blood. This post won't dive into it, but each of Marika's children are cursed. How that happens is up for debate but again, not this post. Even without the knowledge that her children are cursed, we can get a glimpse of the type of curse from careful observation. (Knowing they are cursed makes it easier though)
The Land of Shadows is accessed through Mohg's and Miquella's "bloody bed chamber," and we know Miquella had to use Mohg to travel to there himself. That means Mohg himself is the gateway in some fashion. It's within him. Literally.
The Land of Shadow has been veiled for a long time, but it was cut off from the Lands Between and the only door was Mohg. Morgott also had the ability to be the doorway as well, but unlike Mohg, he sealed his cursed blood. Since he sealed it in his sword, I suppose there might be a way to used that sword as a ritual tool or key, but that's besides the point.
The point is, the Lands of Shadow are within the Omens.
Omens besides Mohg and Morgott aren't able to act as gateways, but they still are connected. It even manifests in the unique yellow-black Omen fire we see them use, which is also used by the Scadutree Avatar. It even manifests in their sleep.
Their nightmares are nightmare depicting the Lands of Shadow. What part of it, I'm unsure. But based on the Omensmirk Mask, I'd say they are seeing the world through the Shaman's eyes.
"Mask with long, hideously twisted horns worn by the Omenkillers. Increases strength. Bears the smirking face of an elder, twisted in wicked delight. This visage is carved in the image of the evil spirits that haunt the Omen in their nightmares."
The mask depicts the hornsent. The Omenkiller Cleavers are the same visually as the Tower Keepers' weapon skills. They see the worst in the hornsent, their hate, strength, brutality and raw spite they have towards Marika and her kin.
In a way, ever curse the hornsent hurled, every slur, threat and damnation did find a way to haunt Marika's kin. Omens appear randomly throughout the people of the Lands Between. Anyone born from parents blessed with Grace hold the risk of being the unknowing target of deep, dark hate.
There a ton of "maybes" that I could add to this, but I want to keep this relatively short. To end this on a cheesy and dramatic note, I'll quote Ansbach.
They deserved better.
