What happened to BMW and its designs?
Older BMW designs were always a combination of elegance and sportiness. Modern BMWs, however, are nothing but aggressive, presenting a one-dimensional design language. Additionally, the newer models follow a tech-centric product design language rather than an emotional car design. Despite this shift, people seem to like it and buy BMWs in large numbers. I'm not sure if it's just our bubble here or a broader trend, but am I the only one who thinks BMW has lost some of its identity? It feels like BMW is trying to be the Apple of the car industry, which is so different from what they used to be.
The same goes for the interiors. They are so techy and minimalistic, lacking the driver-focused, cozy vibe that made you feel welcomed and warm. Modern BMW interiors feel more like an Apple presentation room, at least that's the vibe they give me.
Finally, we need to talk about the most crucial point: the new M5. It represents a low point for BMW driving dynamics. It's heavier and slower than its predecessors. We still have to see if it's slower in corners, but with that much extra weight, I can't imagine it handling anything like older M5s. The same goes for most modern BMWs. They are still very fast, but they feel more like German muscle cars, not nimble sports cars. What's the difference between BMW, Audi, and Mercedes now?
What do you guys think? Am I exaggerating, or do I have a point? Has BMW really changed?
