Pros and Cons of Teleconverter

Hi I'm to this, and recently saw a YouTube video of some guy using a teleconverter to compensate for the shorter telephoto lens. I was wondering if there are any pros vs cons to using one since I've seen a couple of the on Amazon for $30ish so see I'm trying to decide whether to purchase it. Thanks
